    what is safety measures?

    basically, it is someting safe-proofing

I'm moving soon, Rachel, and you know what I'm gonna do before I get settled in?

    What?

Install a smoke detector. I mean, it's really important for safety in the home 'cause many people who die

in fires, I think they die from smoke inhalation in their sleep.

Right, exactly. Especially with the winter and people putting their heaters on or using electric balnkets,

it's really important to install a smoke detector.

Yeah. There are lots of hazards. But I was wondering, is there anything else I should remember to do in

    a new place for safety?

Sure. Well, does your apartment complex have a good alarm system or security system?

I hope so, yes. I hope there's like some CCTV and stuff. But the locks on the doors here in Korea, many

of them are digital number coded.

(closed- circuit televison - surveillance cameras)

    Right.

You don't have to give other people keys you can just tell them your code.

    Exactly.

But they're bad alse because if someone finds out your code, they can get into your house.

Yeah, and I think you can switch those locks. So if you want something with fingerprint recognition,

you can switch that in as well.

    That's really high-tech.

It is really high-tech but it will very, very good for your safety.

Yeah, they'd have to get hold of your finger to get into your house.

That is true. And what about a fire extinguisher?

Do you have one of those at home?

You know, I've never even thought about that. That's never come across my mind. I've never had a

fire extinguisher in any of my homes I've lived in.

You wouldn't know how to use it then?

If I bought one, I'd have to alse learn how to use it. But I think that's a good idea because if it's a small

fire, you'd want a fire extinguisher to tackle it.

Right, exactly. And I don't know what floor you're gonna live on, but I think it's important to keep your

windows protected, 'cause that's another enery way for thieves or burglars to come in.

That's really good. Okay. Things that I never thought of Rachel. I'm gonna get prepared.

It took us several hours to settle in and unpack.

How did you find out they were seeing each other?

I found out your number through Leo.

Where can I get hold of a map of Seoul?

The concept was too difficult to get hold of. (understand)

    come across

I came across a few college friends at the cafe.

We came across some old family photos the other day.

    cross one's mind

It hadn't crossed my mind that you wanted to leave.

The idea of leaving him crossed my mind, but I decided to give us one last chance.

We actually have safety features all around us.

If you drive a car, you might know about the seatbelt.

If you take the subway, you know they have the yellow lines on the platform.

On the subway they have those glass doors that will prevent you from jumping / falling onto

    the track.
